Considering how far I have ever been from my hometown during my life up until last year. I would say that the scenery that I have been surrounded with my whole life has become somewhat bland. Just living in a smaller city in Iowa has become just a regular occurrence.
This winter break I drove through New Mexico and Arizona where the scenery was somewhat of a shock to me. I knew that there were cacti, deserts, and mountains all throughout the two states and was surprised minimally about the landscape. What really shocked me were the palm trees in Arizona. I know that it sounds funny to other people that have traveled but it really surprised me that there were palm trees in the middle of this desert state. Some people can look at a mountain and see everything amazing about it, I am surprised at the things I don't know or expect.
One thing that I really found weird about my trip was that it was twenty degrees outside only thirty minutes away from Phoenix. The mountains of Flagstaff were very snowy and dangerous, but within fifteen minutes you descend five thousand feet. It goes from cold snow, to sleet, to rain, and then desert. It was the most shocking weather change I have ever been through.
